“Thank you again, so VERY much for flying to Dallas to teach Cotillion lessons another season. We so very much enjoy watching our children go thru the program; and how much confidence, consideration and appreciation they ultimately walk away with. We are confident they will have fond memories and practical skills that will set them apart from their peers, in every situation from now on. Plus they will value this experience and plan for it, when they marry and start a family! Who knows how many generations will have your influence and wisdom?
Cotillion is such a unique experience; unique educational facet and so neglected in today's culture! Families used to attend semi-formal and formal events on a regular basis, where children, teens and young adults were exposed to and coached thru different social situations. Weddings, Bar Mitzvahs, symphony concerts, Broadway shows, ballet, opera, graduations, school plays, concerts and recitals, awards ceremonies, even Memorial Day or Veterans' Day parade were regular venues for parents to teach and train their sons & daughters about proper attire and appropriate manners to show respect and consideration for those around them, especially their elders. Unfortunately, this way of life is rare. The next generation has lost a degree of civility because of it, it seems.
Our son and daughter both had a top notch experience in the 3 year middle school program. Our son has used the social skills in job, college and scholarship interviews. It has come in extremely handy when he started attending the JROTC Military Ball in high school. It was an extremely formal event, with military protocol. Almost all the freshmen stumbled thru the motions, while he and another cadet (former military family) were quite at ease. He was the only freshmen who knew how to go thru a receiving line and make proper introductions. After dinner, (another smooth sailing, multiple silverware settings, glasses and courses - thank you JDW!) when he and his partner were on the dance floor, they danced so well (even though the young lady didn’t have the benefit of cotillion) that several of his peers were amazed and asked for help with the dance steps!
This 15 year old finally started to appreciate the beauty and value of his cotillion experience. He was also the only one who knew how to cut in on other couples, when he needed to.
Our daughter (after only one season of cotillion!) immediately put it to good use in a choir concert - that required a couple to ballroom dance during one song. She was the only young lady in the 6th grade that even knew what the teacher was talking about! The only boy who knew - had been in her cotillion class.
We are certainly looking forward to our youngest also attaining these crucial skills. It will be fun to see where he puts them to good use.
Thank you again for putting together such a wonderful program that will have a lasting effect on many generations. I can only hope that more families are able to have this advantage for their sons and daughters. We will always HIGHLY recommend JDW to our family, friends and neighbors enthusiastically. The assistant teachers were always professional and pleasant. The teachers were just always, above and beyond our expectations, in all areas of teaching, training and information presented. It was so interesting and entertaining we sat thru all the sessions ourselves!”
